New York Knicks / Madison Square Garden press release:

"Israel's legendary basketball team Maccabi Electra Tel-Aviv is making an encore appearance at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, October 18th, when they tip-off against the New York Knicks."

Maccabi Tel-Aviv is well respected as perhaps the strongest professional basketball team in the world outside of the NBA. They've won all manner of titles and tournaments and even defeated the Toronto Raptors in 2005. In the past the team has boasted players such as Tom Chambers, Beno Udrih and Anthony Parker. Current players include former NBAers Carlos Arroyo, Dee Brown (the younger one, not the former dunk champ) and Marcus Brown.

This match is not just another move in the internationalisation of basketball. More importantly (and this is the reason that I felt compelled to post this), the proceeds of this game will go towards "Migdal Ohr, Israel's largest orphanage, which provides a nurturing home and outstanding education to over 6,500 neglected, at-risk, underprivileged and new immigrant children.
