Who is the NBA team of the Noughties? E-mail

It's one of those pub debates you would have with your buddies. Who has been the best team of the past decade in the NBA? Who dominated the period 2000-2009 (or the noughties as I think they should be more commonly called)?

Well, Don from With Malice put the debate out there and the results are over at his site, including my two cents. Oh and by the way, there can be no teams in this discussion apart from the Lakers or Spurs -- you know that, right?

Has to be the Lakers when you put Finals appearances in the equation, although these last two teams are hardly gonna stack up historically.

The Spurs are going to be remembered as a great team that could never repeat... adding to the accomplishment of the Lakers winning 3 consecutive titles. Only 3 teams have achieved this in the history of the league... which would add weight to the argument that the Laker's 2000-2003 team was the 3rd best all-time.

Part of what makes a team truly great is their ability to appeal to the popular audience. You can't just win - you have to win looking good. The Showtime Lakers and Jordan Bull's took this to another level. The Spurs and Pistons style of basketball may appeal to the purist, but not many more and this was reflect in the ratings. The three titles won by the Spurs were the 3 worst rating of the decade. More people tuned in to watch the Dallas/Miami series than the top rating Spurs final against the Pistons.
