NBA H-O-R-S-E : Looking Back Over The Years E-mail

NBA HorseSo the field has been set for the 2010 NBA All-Star Weekend H-O-R-S-E event. According to JE Skeets at Ball Don't Lie, this year's event will see returning champion Kevin Durant take on Israeli rookie sensation Omri Casspi and Rajon "there's no F-T in" Rondo.

As Skeets pointed out well, "This year's shot-making shoot-out raises the stakes, as the contest will be held on All-Star Saturday Night (at 7 p.m. ET) in front of a packed house in Dallas.

Pray Rondo's been workin' on those free throws."

With that in mind, I thought it was worthwhile taking a look at the H-O-R-S-E contests (or G-E-I-C-O as it was named last year in an unpopular marketing sell-out) from years gone by to see what we have in store for us. This, ladies and gentlemen, is the Ultimate Collection of H-O-R-S-E Videos.

2009 saw a return to the event which had been missing from the All-Star Weekeend for a long time. It was held on an outdoor court during the Phoenix, Arizona event. Here is video of last year's event featuring Durant, Joe Johnson and OJ Mayo:

As you can see, watching the whole thing live can be a little laborious. It's much nicer as a tight highlights package without all of the misses.

In 1978 we saw the ultimate old-school matchup in George Gervin taking on Pistol Pete Maravich (the Omni, Atlanta):

From the same year, we also have Pistol Pete taking on big Bob McAdoo (this is the most entertaining to watch):

Also from '78, the very suave Paul Westphal against John Williamson in an ambidextrous challenge:
