I'm trying to decide whether or not to get Live 09 or 2K9. Live has that new DNA system but 2K has been so good for the last few years and it looks like they've really tightened the graphics in 2K9.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

A very good question. We've got an interview coming up soon with someone much more qualified than me to answer that.
Hopefully by the end of that piece we'll both have a better idea of what title is best.

So NBA Live still haven't got it together in your opinion? I haven't played either, but I was hoping that the new Live 365 feature would put them back in the race!

Live is definitely better than it has been in the past...but 2k9 has comparable features to 365 meaning what it comes down to is the gameplay. In terms of realistic gameplay, presentation, and good online competition, I think Live still has a ways to go.

The big thing that Live came out with this year was their Dynamic DNA, Live 365 feature. It means that roster updates make your players look like their real-life counterparts as they change, based on real games they play each day/night.
From what I hear, 2K has countered with a pretty similar thing though.
2K has been recognised for a while now as having the best gameplay.
Live does have 24 international rosters, which is pretty cool in my opinion.

You nailed it. The one supposed benefit to buying Live was the DNA feature, but since its announcement 2K has announced their own system which functionally does the same thing.
So it comes down to the gameplay, which is something 2k has been head and shoulders above the rest in for awhile running. The characters don't "float", the dunks are fun but not outrageous, and the game is generally more balanced and realistic with less glitching.

Get 2K9. I played 2K8 and Live '08 last year and I could not stand the game play in Live. It is very very weak. 2K9 is the best NBA game. I wont even play Live anymore. It is not realistic. If you want a challenge and realistic game play, get 2K9. I can't get enough of it.

After playing both games for a while, I have to agree -- 2K9 is the much more refined, smoother game.

I've owned both - 2K9 on xbox and Live on PS3 - I trade in Live for Kill Zone.
Just with the 2K9 Live update system - you have to sign up for xbox live which kinda sux as it cost $20/month or something.
The Live series has the reputation of having better presentation - I think even here it loses out as 2k has improved quite considerably - Live does has Marv Albert which is a plus but Steve Kerr's commentary is quite annoying...
